Put on Eyeshadow Like a Make Up Artist

Do you know how to apply eyeshadow to make your eye stand out? I’m not just speaking about putting on tone on your lids and calling it a day. I must say I am guilty of this at times. When you’re getting prepared for work earling in the morning. do you actually have the time to go “makeup artist” on yourself? Possibly not…but occasionally you like to really dress up your eyes, whether it be for a bash, special event, or date. We can get a bit stale in our makeup usage sometimes. For a lot of years, I usually followed the same routine for my eyes: use a light colored shade on the whole lid. Then use a darker colour in the crease. Finished. It’s really simple, but I needed some thing a tiny bit more extraordinary and distinctive. I just recently went to my beauty parlor, Capella Salon to get my hair cut and had an opportunity to sit and talk with makeup artist, Carly Jacuzzo. She gave me some great guidelines on how to apply eyeshadow like an expert and a few more strategies I am going to reveal to you in today’s write-up.

First of all, when using cosmetics be certain it is a healthy brand, not containing parabens, talc, mineral oil, and other damaging chemicals. Capello is now carrying a wonderful line of mineral makeup called La Bella Donna. Doesn’t that name sound high-class? The products are just as sumptuous as the name infers. While my hair was processing Carly applied makeup as if my face was a empty canvas and she was the “artiste”! I really adore the method she used on my eyes and currently I will share it with you (it’s quite easy really):

1. Utilize a light colored shadow to the entire lid up to the eyebrow line. She used a glossy light brown hue.

2. Apply a colour in a tad of a darker shade than the one you previously used in the middle section of the eye. Ensure to blend utilizing a top notch makeup brush.

3. Opt for a dark hue for this step. Carly used a lovely dark brown. From the center of your eyelid crease to the corner of your eye and down toward the eyelash line, sweep the brush in a v shape. This seriously makes the eyes stand out! Blend in, naturally. In a nutshell, you’re brushing on colors from light to dark as you go from the inner eye to the outer.

4. As a concluding step, you can line the eyes either with eyeliner pencil, or as Carly did, with an even darker shade of mineral shadow. She used a dark grey, (almost black) to line the top and a touch of the bottom part of my lash line.

So at present you can apply your eye shadow just like a pro! She also gave me some extra guidelines which I’ve been using ever since and I am sure you’ll benefit from.

Bonus tip #1- To apply color, you can use the same “v” approach used for the eyes. Apply blush in a V shape from the top of your cheeks to the inner part of the cheek to the lower part of the cheek.

Bonus tip #2- When doing your makeup, apply a portion of tape (just plain masking tape) to the side of your brow line to the bottom of your eye lid for flawless eye makeup!

Bonus tip #3- At all times do your eye makeup first, then do your face, that way any blunders can be readily cleaned up without ruining your face makeup.

Bonus tip #4- This one was an answer to a question posted by one of my readers. She asked, “What do you do when a acne pimple pops up right when you have a night out or important occasion?” Carly explained many people do the incorrect thing which makes the spot get noticed even more and we really don’t want that! Instead of applying concealer then powder, do this alternatively: apply foundation first! Then apply concealer and powder. A lot of people do the concealer first, but it ends up accentuating the pimple. Do it the opposite way to hide that nasty pimple!

Bonus tip #5- This one isn’t from Carly…it’s from me and correlates with makeup organization rather than application. Actually, it’s from my aunt…when I was calling on her, I spotted how she stored her makeup and I loved the idea. She got one of those mini 3 drawer storage containers and all her cosmetics were so organized! She inspired me so much that I went and got one the other day (on sale!) at Target. It’s far better than throwing every thing in a bag, not being able to locate anything, and having it all coated with eye shadow. If you have a huge makeup collection, you can get the somewhat larger storage bins.

Quite often I have desired I had access to a makeup artist to ask her all the burning questions I have about makeup application. I felt so appreciative to the pleasure to chat with Carly during my hair appointment. She did a spectacular job on my cosmetics when I was there, but she made me appreciate that if I used her hints, I can do it myself too. If you use her relatively easy methods, you can apply eyeshadow, blush, and other types of makeup with ease. After my makeup and hair was finished, I loved how the foundation looked so much that I ended up investing in it. I don’t usually use a large amount of foundation, but this one gave me a polished, yet natural look. It was La Bella Donna compressed minerals in Marianna and believe it or not, it appeared as bright later on as it did when Carly applied it. If you’re on the lookout for a hair stylist (that’s Debbie Caruso, owner of Capello) or a experienced makeup artist, feel free to go to Capello Salon. Oh, yes, and be sure to tell them Robin sent you!
